The Poplars Cellar Door Precinct wins! The team at The Poplars are celebrating their win in the 2008 Limestone Coast Tourism Awards in Category 5 'Cellar Doors'. This award comes hot on the heels of being named a finalist in the Tourism category for the Restaurant and Catering SA awards.

The Poplars Winery is located in the heart of Coonawarra and is the Limestone Coast's largest privately
owned winery. We are very proud to be a part of Australia's premier cabernet sauvignon district.

The winery site began its life in the 1960's as Mildara on land originally purchased in 1955. Mildara's first
vintage, in what we now regard as the original winery was in 1963. In fact we still use its large open
fermenters for our hand picked estate grown cabernet, the same ones that were used for the
famous '63 Peppermint Pattie.
 
Our company's 23 year years of experience in the hospitality business combined with our winemaker's
passion for making wines that are to be savoured with food delivers to the marketplace a range of wines ideally matched to the enjoyment of food.
 
The cellar door precinct, pictured above, officially opened in September 2007. It is open everyday 9am to 6pm.
It features wine tasting and sales, a cheese bar, produce store and 'Kitchen' cafe. It is a must do during any
visit to Coonawarra.

08.08 - Coonawarra comes to a town near you!
Join us in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide this year for the Coonawarra Roadshow. Trade event runs from 2pm to 5pm with the doors open to the public from 5.30pm.

10.08 - Coonawarra Cabernet Weekend
Preparations are well underway for the 2008 Cabernet Weekend Celebrations, October 17th through 19th. The region comes alive with great music, special dinners, wine tastings and much more. For our part we are hosting two events and also have a tremendous auction item for Sunday's Sparkling Brunch.

1984, A Dinner: In 1984 the $1 coin was introduced, Prince Harry was born, Torvill & Dean won an Olympic gold medal for Bolero, green and gold were proclaimed Australia's national colours and Chardonnay Lodge opened its doors for the first time. Join us for a 1984 inspired dinner by Chef Tim Foster at Chardonnay Lodge; 5 course degustation featuring our best regional produce, some rare 1984 Coonawarra reds and a few surprises.

Fun @ The Poplars: It's a weekend for fun, relaxation, play and the mutual appreciation of Coonawarra Cabernet. Have a hearty brekkie, sip wine, play giant snakes and ladders, tasted cheese, enjoy lunch, challenge a friend to a game of checkers...Kitchen cafe will be serving food all day, wine available by the glass plus there's a special kids menu. Auction Item: Invest in your own Coonawarra Cabernet Futures. It's your chance to purchase your own Cabernet made by one of Coonawarra's Next Generation of up and coming winemakers, Jonathon Luestner. The grapes will be hand picked and the 240 bottles of wine after appropriate aging in oak will be bottled with your own personalised version of The Poplars label.
